About Stephen P. Crane

Some authors make up their scary stories. I didn’t have to.

When I was ten years old, my family moved into an old farmhouse in rural Ohio. What happened during the years we lived there defied explanation — and never really left me. Decades later, those experiences became the foundation for the Willow’s Bend universe, a series of supernatural horror novels rooted in things I personally witnessed and could never quite explain away.

I’m Stephen P. Crane, and I write the kind of stories that stay with you long after the lights go back on.

Two Worlds. One Author.

My writing life exists in two very different universes.

As Stephen Crane, I write supernatural horror. The Dark Entity Series — beginning with “The Haunting of Willow’s Bend Farm” — draws directly from real paranormal experiences during my childhood in Ohio. These aren’t stories I invented at a desk. They’re accounts of things I lived through, fictionalized just enough to be safely terrifying. Readers feel the difference, and that authenticity is what drives everything I write in this genre.

As Stephen P. Crane, I write historical fantasy. The Thelma Bishop Series follows a remarkable woman through adventures where ancient legends turn out to be dangerously real. Starting with “The Hills of Kilcorney,” Thelma’s world blends meticulous historical research with the kind of mythical wonder that makes you believe the impossible.

Two very different genres. The same commitment to stories that feel real.

The House That Started Everything

In 1978, the Anderson family in “The Haunting of Willow’s Bend Farm” moved into an old Ohio farmhouse looking for a fresh start.

That family is mine.

The events in that novel — the shadows, the sounds, the sense of something watching from places that should have been empty — are drawn from real life. Growing up in that house shaped how I see the world, and eventually, how I write about it.

When “The Haunting of Willow’s Bend Farm” reached the Top 10 in multiple Amazon horror categories, I realized that authentic fear resonates in a way that manufactured scares simply can’t. Readers feel when something is real.

That’s the only way I know how to write horror.

Beyond the Books

When I’m not writing about things that go bump in the night or ancient Irish legends, you’ll find me and my wife traveling the Midwest, performing music and sharing our faith with communities across the region. Music has been part of my life for over five decades, and that same love of storytelling that drives my writing shows up every time we take the stage.

I also create “The Hollow” — a growing series of supernatural short stories available as both a YouTube series and podcast. Think of it as the campfire version of the Willow’s Bend universe: shorter, darker, and perfect for a late night when you probably shouldn’t be listening alone.

Life is full of stories worth telling. I’m just trying to tell as many of them as I can before the lights go out.
